Mayoral candidates are coming out of the woodwork, popping up in the papers and probably practising their handshake (firm) and baby kissing (gentle).

Jim Reid is a five-time San Francisco mayoral candidate.

Last year, he campaigned in part - Hamilton City Council please take note - on erecting statues of famous San Franciscans throughout the city.

He proposed that the Arts Commission - Perry Foundation please note - fund 12 statues. They would be lifelike and life-size and - Perry and HCC please stop reading - "have the voice of the person telling his or her life story so tourists or residents could hear it at the push of a button".

Reid's statue nominees included those honoured already in road and plaza names. Then, inspiration failing him, he got generic - a Black American, a Chinese in China Town, a Japanese in Japan Town, a famous lesbian on Valencia Street, someone in North Beach, famous San Francisco women.
