Hamilton's Farming Family have got some new clothes to wear, thanks to a group of fibre experts who want to show off their talent.
The public art at the intersection of Victoria and Ulster Sts was adorned with handmade scarves, hats, a handbag and even a blanket for the cow, by the Creative Fibre Hamilton group yesterday in the leadup to this week's Craft and Quilt Fair at the Claudelands Events Centre.

Members also decorated the Riff Raff statue in Victoria St and the brick caravan outside ArtsPost.

The group were promoting an exhibition featuring work from Creative Fibre New Zealand members at the fair, which runs from Thursday to Sunday.

Creative Fibre Hamilton treasurer Patricia Gammeter said the exhibition, called Creative Fibre Experience 2009, would include fibre works made from weaving, spinning, knitting, crochet and felting.

The works had been made by craftspeople from all over the country including Hamilton, Cambridge and Te Awamutu.

A coat made of leaves and jute by a Te Awamutu member of the group was fitted to the Riff Raff statue while the brick caravan was given a makeover with some new "curtains".

"We've made these items specifically for dressing up these three public arts. There are all sorts of fibres, some will be wool, some hand spun, some woven and some will be acrylic."
