Rocky Horror plans draw mixed reactions

The prospect of legions of Rocky Horror fans attending a Hamilton convention to celebrate the cult musical's 30th anniversary has met a mixed response from councillors.

Rocky Horror creator Richard O'Brien has floated the prospect with copyright holder Lou Adler. He has told the Times it was "just an idea at this point".

Vocal project critic councillor Jocelyn Marshall said she wouldn't support it "because I don't think it's an appropriate thing for the city to celebrate".

"Let them celebrate it when they like. I won't be there," she said.

Mayor David Braithwaite was unenthusiastic about the prospect of any ratepayer support for such an event.

"While the city was interested in attracting "events of all kinds, I would have thought it could stand on its own financial legs," he said.

Councillor John Gower said he thought it was a great idea.

"We've got to get the city moving forward and Rocky Horror is just one of those things".

"Anything that attracts visitors is good for business and for the city."
